Welcome to the Show

Black Myth: Wukong dominates since its release on August 20th. It has broken all previous records with over a million players playing at once. It has also established a new standard in the gaming business by adamantly refusing to work with DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) consulting firms.

(Beautiful, just beautiful)

Although the game has been in development for a while, gameplay trailers and other media have recently generated a lot of excitement around it. After the reviews started flowing in, Black Myth: Wukong achieved an 82 rating on Metacritic. Although it’s a solid score, you might be shocked that it isn’t higher if you’ve been hearing previews that suggested it could be a contender for “Game of the Year.”

This score was calculated using about 55 reviews that were added to Metacritic. This means that even if a few reviews were added later and the score changed by a few points, it would essentially remain same.

Numerous publications lauded the combat and versatility of the game, describing it as a genuine action role-playing game that many should try. Many publications did, however, also point out that despite the game’s beauty, there are some technical problems.

(This Monkey means business)

The enormous success of Black Myth: Wukong at launch speaks louder than any of the pitiful criticisms made by prominent outlets, despite their attempts to paint the developer Game Science in a bad light.

This victory is a VERY clear statement from players everywhere that the fundamental elements of gaming should be gripping narrative and interesting gameplay, not the “forced integration” of DEI concepts that don’t appeal to the intended audience.

Wicked’s Take

With great anticipation for its release, I placed a pre-order for the game. Partially since my birthday coincides with its publication. (Woohoo) I am really enjoying the game now that I am about halfway through. It is lovely, fluid, and presents a respectable challenge. The game is beautiful hands down. I love spending moments just looking at the environment GameScience has done an incredible job creating. The game is not as linear as some reviews said, in my opinion. I spent quite a bit of time exploring the woods in the beginning before encountering any significant boss fights. I am also a big fan of the combat which requires a fair amount of focus when taking on serious enemies. It is varied but quick to learn which allows for very satisfying fights once you have the controls down. Expect a video review on the game as soon as it’s completed for a full-fleshed out opinion. As of right now, I would definitely give it an easy:

8/10
